Located between Benalla and Wangaratta in North East Victoria, the Winton Wetlands are a major drawcard for interaction between native plants and animals and people for thousands of years. Formed in 2010 when the dam was decommissioned at Lake Mokoan, the area is slowly changing and reinventing itself after long history of dislocation.
Chair of the wetland’s Committee of Management, Dennis O’Brien recounts some of this history and its meaning for the plants, animals and around the wetlands and further abroad. He was interviewed during the Science Forum held at the wetlands in August 2019.
